Travel Kits: A Simple Way to Bless Others, an e-book by Donna Rees, distributed by TOS, is 92-pages of fun-filled ideas guaranteed to promote a quieter, less-stressful road trip for your family, or that of a friend you chose to bless. From cover to cover, the book provides creative gift ideas, craft ideas, snack ideas, and travel links that will bless any family traveling with children of all ages, whether by car, by boat, or by plane.
While the idea of packing an assortment of gifts to present to my boys as we travel causes me to take pause (we travel a great deal, and I don’t want to set a precedent where by they begin to expect little gifts every time we hit the road), I did discover several fun road-trip game ideas, snack recipes, and book titles, both audiobooks and traditional books, to request from the library before our next trip.
My boys have learned from experience that any time we travel more than two hours from home, they should pack a few favorite DVDs, some audio books or music CDs, books, travel games, and toys to occupy themselves along the way. I know to bring along some yummy snacks, especially now that Ryan eats gluten- and dairy-free due to food allergies; a few more water bottles than I think necessary; and a new audiobook for me to listen to when the boys fall asleep, which they almost always do at some time along the way.
I also try to scout out at least one special place to stop to stretch our legs and perhaps have a snack. On our drive to Grandma’s, we always stop at Borders Bookstore On other trips, we have stopped at restaurants, parks, and even a museum or two.
For a less-well-traveled family, the idea of a travel kit will likely be more appealing. After all, their kids, and possibly their parents, may not know exactly what to bring to along to keep the travelers: from the littlest back seat rider to the driver and the navigator in the front seat, entertained.
If you are a seasoned traveler or (gasp) someone who doesn’t travel at all, the Travel Kits e-book will likely still have something of interest for you. I plan to use some of the travel kit gift ideas to create unique birthday gifts for friends of the boys, as well as for an original baby shower or wedding shower gift idea. I am thinking of a hospital travel kit for a new Mom-to-be and a honeymoon travel kit for the newlyweds. In fact, I have a friend expecting her fourth little blessing in a few months so I had better get busy on that Mom-to-be hospital travel kit. My mind is spinning with ideas for a kit to bless the seasoned Mom who has just about everything she needs for a new baby, but is sure to need some encouragement to take some time for herself.
