Finer Things Friday: Coming Together

So often, we focus on the things that divide:  political differences, racial differences, class differences,  age differences… but when it comes right down to it, we have shown time and time again that the United States of America can and will UNITE in times of need, and that is truly a FINER THING!
The earthquake in Haiti this week and the resulting devastation and destruction  touched hearts throughout our nation and around the world.  Within hours of the earthquake, our many differences were set aside and people were working together; aid was being organized:  National Guard Regiments and local fire departments prepared to mobilize; humanitarian aid organizations gathered supplies and donations; churches held prayer services; and individuals, families, and groups looked at what they could do to help.
While the help each of us is able to give will differ, we can ALL do something:  give, donate, encourage, pray…

Those of us in the DC-Metro Area have a unique opportunity this Sunday afternoon.  The National Organization for Advancement of Haitians (NOAH) will be collecting donations at the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti in Washington, D.C.  (2311 Massachusetts Avenue, NW) Sunday, January 17, from 11am-4pm.
A detailed list of items needed can be found here.  Many of these items are sold at your local dollar store or  in the dollar isle at stores such as Wal-Mart and Target.  If you live in the DC-Metro Area, please consider helping this organization collect items that are needed in Haiti immediately:  baby formula, diapers, baby clothes, toiletries, hand sanitizer, flashlights, batteries, candles, flip flops, t-shirts, over-the-counter medications.  Every donation will make a difference!
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in…
Matthew 25:35
