The day before Valentine’s Day is a special day in our home: it’s Patrick’s birthday! (Happy Birthday, dear one!) Pulling together a birthday celebration the day before Valentine’s Day is a bit complicated, to say the least. Having the birthday boy home ALL week due to snow closings made planning a birthday celebration, much less a birthday celebration AND a Valentine’s Day celebration, virtually impossible. The boys and I did, however, manage a little birthday surprise today.
When Patrick finally headed out to the store this evening (much later than he had initially planned), we set to work making a salty birthday treat. Cakes tend to sit on our counter and grow mold, but pretzels… our Philadelphia-born dear can’t get enough of them!
So, once we heard the car drive away, we set to work.
We pulled the rising dough out of the oven (where I had hidden it) and we rolled…
and we shaped…
and we salted and baked… and then, of course, we tasted… just to make sure our pretzels tasted as good as they looked! They did!
The boys were so excited about their special surprise, they didn’t even let their Dad get into the house before presenting him with their yummy gift!
(Just look at those smiles! )
Happy Birthday, Dad!
Now to figure out what to do tomorrow for Valentine’s Day!
