“How do you do it?” “Does the school provide you with a curriculum to follow?” “I know I couldn’t teach my children at home.” Comments like these are common in response after acknowledging that, “Yes, we homeschool.” Fortunately, we are homeschooling in a time when there are numerous products available to support and ease the burden on the homeschooling family, no matter what theory of education that family decides to follow.
For families adapting the Classical Method of education, Easy Classical Press provides complete curriculum schedules, history schedules, and science schedules. I was provided the Early Modern History schedule for review.
The Early Modern History Schedule focuses on history from the Explorers through the American Revolution. The 36-week schedule includes recommended readings, writing suggestions, hands on projects, and discussion questions. Each week includes a shopping list, recommended reading selections from core books such as Story of the World, mapping and geography activities, writing assignments, and comprehension questions. The schedule is geared toward children in grades K through 6, but can be adapted to include younger or older children when used in a multi-age household.
Since joining the TOS Crew, the boys and I have tried out a variety of products, including computer websites, books, games, and curriculum. Some we’ve enjoyed so much that we’ve incorporated them into our daily schedule, while others we found weren’t quite as good a fit for us. Today’s review of the Easy Classical Early Modern History Schedule, however, was a bit different. I can’t honestly say whether the schedule would be a good fit for our family or not based on the product I received.
As mentioned, I was given a download of one history schedule to review; the schedule, not any of the books or supporting materials from which the schedule draws its recommendations. As a result, I found it difficult to truly review the schedule. Yes, it looks organized. Yes, it appears to be complete. Yes, Easy Classical Press does have a convenient listing of the books its schedule uses and links to on-line sellers of these books. However, without having the materials the schedule refers to, I am unable to judge the appropriateness of the amount of work, the variety of the activities suggested, or the likelihood I would be to recommend the schedule to others. The best I can do is say, it looks promising and suggest that you check it out for yourself. There are sample pages here.
Easy Classical Press: Early Modern History Schedule retails for $35.95 for a print version or $29.95 for the digital version. A complete line of history schedules is available, as are schedules for science, and complete curriculum schedules.
I received the Easy Classical Press: Early Modern History Schedule free for the purpose of reviewing it. I received no other compensation for this review. The opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinions. Your experience may vary.
