Helping Your Elementary Student Manage His Time

I am no expert when it comes to time management.  I have endured my share of all-nighters in an effort to finish projects left until the last minute, and I’ve missed a deadline or two in my time (eh-hem, like the one for this post… which was yesterday), but for the most part, I do manage to plan for the boys’ schooling, chauffeur them from place to place, and to wash a load of laundry now and then.  My nine-year-old on the other hand, can’t seem to finish a math assignment in a reasonable amount of time, or to return his books to the bookshelf.  And unfortunately, to date, he has been completely and totally overwhelmed by any attempt at time management and organization.  So, when I was given the opportunity to try out and review TOS Magazine’s Primary Student Schoolhouse Planner, I was cautiously optimistic, for while I have thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility of the TOS Schoolhouse Planner in organizing our school and our home, I wasn’t sure if the Student Schoolhouse Planner would be any different from checklists and planners we’ve used with limited success in the past.
As it turns out, The Primary Student Schoolhouse Planner is not like any student planner we have come across in the past.  It is 203 pages of calendars; chore charts; lists from the Bible, history, science, music, art, and literature; and forms for book-reports, field trips, science labs, nature study, and so much more!  Over the past few weeks, Ryan has been keeping track of his completed assignments, his books read, and his extracurricular activities – on his own!  He is beginning to read through the Bible independently, in an organized fashion, by following the Bible Reading Schedule included with his calendar, and he is excitedly quoting facts from the Timeline of Inventions and the Timeline of Presidents.  In this case, the extras:  the Bible Reading Schedule and the Timelines of various facts were enticing enough to my nine-year-old fact seeker to interest him in attempting to follow his calendar and assignment sheets.
The Primary Student Schoolhouse Planner is available as a download from the The Old Schoolhouse Store for just $9.95.  Download a sample of the Primary Student Schoolhouse Planner here.
