Boys | Gratituesday | Summer
After three hours in 100 degree heat picking peaches and raspberries, we were ready to cool off in the neighborhood pool.
But just as we had the cool, clear water of the pool in our sights, we were approached by one of the lifeguards:
“Pool’s closed,” he said.
“What?” we mumbled in disbelief.
“We had to close the pool after a kid pooped in it,” he elaborated.
Audible sighs all around.
“It’ll be at least three hours before we can get the levels all straightened out and reopen.”
“No, no, no,” I wanted to yell.
“Now what can we do to cool off?” asks one of the boys.
In the five minutes it took to get home home, here’s what they came up with:
“Good thing we have our bathing suits on!” shouts one of the boys as they disappear around the back of the house.
“Good thing,” I agree with a smile.
An empty backyard sandbox, a little water from the garden hose, a bit of imagination and creativity, and three friends who spent the next two hours playing in their Plan B pool… now that’s something to be thankful for!
