Glaen: A Novel Message on Romance, Love & Friendship by Fred. R. Lybrand is a book on friendships, dating, romance and marriage. It is the story of Annie, a college graduate-student, who finds herself confused about love and relationships on the heels of her parents’ unexpected divorce. In an attempt to figure out just what it is that makes relationships work, Annie enrolls in a class entitled “Original Non-Fiction.” In the class, taught by Glaen (pronounced with an ‘a’ like in rain), a white-haired professor, Annie begins to write a book on relationships. As Annie researches and observes those in relationships around her, she identifies what it is that makes a relationship a success and how we work to sabotage our relationships, be they romantic relationships, family relationships, or friendships. Annie identifies 5 lies that destroy relationships and 5 truths that strengthen them. She also discovers 7 fatal mistakes of dating. Her discoveries will be useful to anyone in a relationship.
Mr. Lybrand has a
website and a
blog dedicated to this book. He is currently discussing the 7 fatal mistakes of dating on the blog. Here’s Fatal Dating Mistake #1: Dating the Wrong Person:
Glaen is written for young adults, but is relevant to readers of any age and in any stage of relationship: single, dating, courting, married, or divorced. Glaen provides a non-threatening introduction to relationships and could serve as a means to open a line of communication between parents and their children of dating-age. A study guide will be available on the website soon. Once it is, this book would lend itself well to a group study for young adults, possibly even as part of a marriage preparation class.
