Summer is here. School is out and families are beginning to plan vacations: trips to the beach, an amusement park, a museum… all wonderful places, full of fun, unless you and your child are separated, and then they become places of sheer panic: crowds of people coming and going and large areas of ground to cover.
Several years ago, we were planning a trip to Walt Disney World with our boys. Worried about becoming separated from our littlest explorer, we brain-stormed a way to help reunite with our boys should we become separated. Warned against shoe or clothing tags that contained too much personal information, for example, a child’s name and address, we opted to make cell-phone ID bracelets for the boys.
We purchased plastic number beads, colored beads, and stretchy cord (all available at Wal-mart, Michaels, JoAnns, or a similar store). We strung our cell phone number (with area code) onto the bracelet and finished it off with colored beads of each boys’ choosing.
The boys wore these bracelets for our Disney trip, and on numerous other trips in the years since. We have told them that if they become separated from us during our travels, they should find an employee and ask him or her to please call our cell phone. This will enable us to be reunited with our lost little guy as quickly as possible…
… and less time in extreme panic certainly Works for Me!
