Gratituesday: Summer Reading: HE DID IT!

Last month, Ryan attended an A to Z Mystery themed birthday party.  The party host presented each of the boys in attendance with one of the A to Z Mystery books (by Ron Roy) as a party favor.  Ryan read the entire book that afternoon and begged to head to the library before it closed so he could pick up more of the A to Z Mysteries.  He ended up checking out the first six books, staying up late that evening and rising early the next morning to read the books.  Two days later, we headed to the library again… and then again… and again.
In the past month, Ryan has read ALL 26 A to Z Mystery books, 3 Super Edition A to Z Mystery stories, and 8 of the 12 Capital Mystery Series by the same author.  And so today, much to Ryan’s delight, we headed to Barnes & Nobel and to Borders to pick up Ryan’s FREE Summer reading booksJanuary Joker by Ron Roy (you can only imagine Ryan’s excitement at seeing this book on the B&N free book list) and Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.
This evening, Ryan read January Joker and so tomorrow, it’s off to the library for February Friend and March Mischief… and while Ron Roy’s books are not classic children’s literature, they are fun stories and they have convinced my son on the joy of reading a book cover to cover… and for that I am grateful.
