This weekend, the boys went camping with their Cub Scout Pack, accompanied by their Dad… and their Grandma! It was a beautiful weekend, and they had a fabulous time… which you can read about here, for while I am grateful that the camping weekend was such a success, my Gratituesday post is not about their weekend: camping under the starts, cooking over the fire, fishing, catching toads, or spending time with friends… well, actually, it is about spending time with friends… or rather one friend… but it’s about spending time with one friend, indoors, coffee in hand, surrounded by an overwhelming amount of clutter, plastic garbage bags, and plastic bins.
It may be hard to believe I could be grateful for time spent indoors on a lovely Spring weekend, for clutter, or for plastic garbage bags, but I AM! And most of all, I am grateful for one friend who bravely volunteered to spend the morning with me, wading through the clutter that has accumulated in our family room/play room/school room… otherwise known as the room of many uses!
I have not been able to get a handle on this space since moving into our town home over three years ago. No matter how hard I try, I seem to make little headway with the growing clutter that has accumulated “down there.” Since a picture is worth a thousand words, let me -gulp- swallow my pride -gulp- and show you what this dear friend walked into on Saturday morning:
And let me show you what that same space looked like just four hours later:
Oh, and I have since cleared off the mantel as well!
Progress! During those four hours, we chatted, sipped coffee, and snacked on cheese and fruit. All the while, I sorted, and tossed, and donated… and she guided with a soft hand, encouraged with a gentle spirit, and when all else failed, she spoke a well-chosen, encouraging word or two to keep me moving!
The room is not finished. I still have to make sense of this area:
and this one:
but, at last, I can see real progress… and for that, I am truly grateful!
Thank you, dear friend, for I could not have asked for better company for my weekend of decluttering and organizing!
