After 50 inches of snow and record cold temperatures this winter, the Spring-like days that began this week were welcomed with shouts of, “Mom, we’re going out to scooter!” and “Mom, where are my roller blades?” The boys were out for hours, skating, scootering, running, shouting, and enjoying the sun and mild temperatures.
Do you see the mounds of snow that remain?
It’s 65 degrees, and we still have snow on the ground!
When they awoke this morning to gray skies and rain drumming on the roof, their disappointment was palatable. OK, not just theirs, mine as well. Never mind that this is the rain storm the weather forecasters were originally predicting for Wednesday. Never mind that we had two extra days of gorgeous weather. We wanted more!
All morning, Ryan and Connor struggled to complete their school work and bickered with one another. When I had had about all I could take, I decided to go ahead and shoo them out of the house. After all, the rain falling outside was a Spring rain, temperatures were still above 60 degrees, and my kids have yet to demonstrate that they will melt in water – despite their occasional protests at bath time!
So, out came the rain boots, the scooters, and the rain coats – and out went the boys!
Who said rainy days were only fun for ducks?
It wasn’t long before they were asking for a snack… popcorn, of course… which they planned to eat outside, in the pouring rain!
So, there they sat: under the protection of the little overhang, leaning against the front door, eating their popcorn, chatting away: a quiet moment between brothers enjoying a rainy Spring Friday… truly a Finer Thing!
