The boys have been waiting and waiting for snow. Twice now the weather forecasters have suggested a possibility of snow in the Northern Virginia area, and twice now the boys have been undeniably disappointed to wake and find the ground bare. So when we began planning a pre-Christmas trip to New Jersey, the boys began praying for “snow at Grandma’s”… and the day before we were set to drive North, the snow began to fall. As the day turned into evening, and the evening turned into night, the snow continued to fall, and fall, and fall, until at least ten inches of soft, fluffy snow had accumulated.
The boys didn’t arrive at Grandma’s until after dark the next day, but Grandpa had promised them they could go out to play in the snow even if it was dark, and so out they went. Connor wasn’t out long; according to Grandma, it took longer to get him dressed in his snow clothes than the time he played outside. Ryan, however, played and explored the snow-covered woods by flashlight well into the evening. Leya kept him company; she loves to romp in the snow!

(notice it is almost up to her belly, and she’s not a small dog!)
Later in the week, Uncle Jim and cousin Sarah joined the boys and Patrick in building a snow igloo large enough to hold all three kids comfortably. The next morning it rained a cold, icy rain, but the kids were not deterred. They were out in their snow igloo, protected from the rain they said, for a couple of hours!
Connor, all smiles, despite the cold!

I have many fond memories of time spent building and playing in snow igloos as a child. Since moving to Virginia, we have had a few days with enough snow for sledding or snowball fighting, but have yet to have enough snow for igloo building. What fun for the boys to finally have this opportunity!
