A beautiful Fall day, a bike riding triumph, books at bedtime… what a day! After a week and a half of record breaking temperatures, Fall finally made an appearance today. With cooler temperatures, a new bike helmet, and a whole row of empty spaces in our parking lot, the boys and I headed out for an afternoon of bike riding.
Ryan has been able to ride a two-wheeler for almost two years now, but he lacked the confidence to do it consistently on his own – until today! Today everything just clicked. Ryan rode up and down and around the parking lot time and time again, with feet, with no feet, turning this way and that, grinning from ear to ear!
And now, Connor wants to try riding a bike without training wheels… and so I am once again running behind a wobbling two-
wheeled bike, this time
for Connor.
As if mastering the fear that kept him from riding a two-wheeler for fun didn’t provide enough excitement, today Ryan also discovered the joy of independent reading!
Today, Ryan began reading one of his favorite books, Dinosaurs Before Dark, the first book in the Magic Tree House series, on his own! And today, Ryan actually said to me, “Mom, I can’t go to bed, I have six more pages before the end of the chapter!” Ah, a proud moment for a Mom who has been known to stay up until 4am reading a good book.
