I fought it for as long as I could, but finally gave in. Yes, we now have a DVD player installed in our car. And I must say, our Father’s Day weekend road trip was indeed much quieter and far more peaceful than usual. There was no arguing over whether or not to have the radio on, no “he’s touching me” or “he’s kicking me” or my favorite, “he’s looking at me!,” and whines of “are we almost there?” were few and far between. Instead, there was an occasional giggle to a movie line playing in the boys’ headphones, an intermittent, “Did you see that?” or “That’s amazing!,” and every so often a polite request for a “new movie, please.” Movies requested by the boys on this trip: Speed Racer, Herbie Rides Again, and Disney’s Cars.
Quiet, however, is not the same as uneventful. Along Route 95, somewhere between New Jersey and Maryland I caught a glimpse of the following in our rear view mirror:
A bit of evasive driving and the ignoring of some not-so-kind gestures and honks, enabled Patrick to slow down enough for a better look and another photo:
The boys were quite amused by the sight of a driving Wiener, but not enough to be distracted from their movie for more than a minute or two, and so the peace continued until we pulled into our neighborhood a couple of hours later.
