Eating Socks

“Santa, please bring 10,000 LEGOs!”

I am convinced that my children eat socks! I buy socks in pairs; I wash socks in pairs; oftentimes I even put socks away in pairs… so why then when it is time to put socks on their feet can I not find pairs of socks?! Today, we were going to see Santa, a holiday tradition I wrestle with every year. Do I really want to go to the mall the week before Christmas? Do I want to wait in a long line with two impatient boys? Do I need an overpriced photo of the boys with the jolly old man himself? In the end, I always decide no… and no… but yes, and we head out. Well, this morning, no matter how hard I searched, I could not find socks for the boys! One of Santa’s little helpers must have been watching as I searched drawers, looked under beds, and even peeked in the dirty laundry basket (sorry Mom, I was desperate), because suddenly behind me I heard a little noise. I turned around and under the boys’ little tree were two pair of Mammoth Crocs (the ones with the furry lining, no socks required). In spite of my surprise, I did manage to catch a glimpse of a green pointed shoe climbing out the bedroom window. (That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!) I ran to tell the boys what I’d seen. They donned their Mammoths and excitedly repeated the story to Grandma before we headed out to the mall where we found a close parking spot, arrived to see Santa with no line, and got a good photo of both boys – still overpriced, but… two out of three… now, if I could just find one pair of socks…!
