Out of the mouths of (Irish) babes: Part 2

Last year for Christmas, the boys received a singing, dancing Irish Santa. They loved it at once, but Patrick and I were unsure about the beer in Santa’s hand. Did an imbibing Santa send an inappropriate message to the boys? For a year we worried and discussed… should Santa find a new home? Could I maybe remove Santa’s beer from his hand and glue on a little Christmas tree or some such thing? In the end, the boys’ pure enjoyment in watching Santa dance won out, and we did let them have Santa to play with again this year, in agreement that Santa’s beer would be replaced as soon as possible. And then, not five minutes after this decision had been made, Connor, through giggles at Santa’s antics, said, “Mommy, he spilling his drink!” (Oh my, I thought! That beer needs to be replaced NOW!) More giggles, and then… “Mommy, he spilling his hot chocolate! Santa spilling his hot chocolate!” So, for this year, Santa will continue to drink his hot chocolate… but by next year, he’ll be dancing with a tree in hand!
